Selvam Selva, who is popularly known as Stunt Silva-an Indian stunt actor-co-ordinator and an action director. He has predominantly worked in Hindi, Sinhala, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film industries. He is mainly known for his Tamil debut movie named “Yamadonga” which was directed by S.S. Rajamouli and released in 2007.
Career
Initially, he got trained as a male nurse from Stanley Medical College, and after completing training, he started working at hospitals of his own town of Tuticorin. He also worked in offices where he served as a peon and also dabbled in the transport business.
In 2002, he met a dance choreographer who advised him to join the film line and take start with a background dancer in movies. Since then, he took dance classes from Paul Raj’s School but he failed to gain access to the dancers’ community. Later, he applied for a membership with the union for a stuntman.
He then started working as an assistant to Peter Hein, who was a stunt choreographer in the movie “Run” which was released in 2002, and “Thirumalai”(2003). In 2007, Silva helped Rajnikanth perform stunts in the movie named “Sivaji”.
Since then, he worked as an assistant fighter in numerous movies of Telugu and Tamil film industries. Later, director S.S. Rajamouli gave him an opportunity to work as an actor in the movie “Yamadonga” which became the best release of the year 2007 and earned critical acclaim.
After making Tamil debut movie, he then started working in more than a hundred Indian movies as the lead stunt director.
Achievements
Among prestigious awards and honors, he won the Tamil Benz Club Award for the Best Action Choreography for the movie “Thani Oruvan” in 2015. In the same year, he won the Edison Awards for the same category “Vedhalam”.
